Proctology, a vital branch of Shalyatantra (General Surgery), focuses on conditions such as hemorrhoids, fistula-in-ano, fissure-in-ano, pilonidal sinus, and other colorectal disorders. This program integrates classical Ayurvedic principles with modern diagnostic and surgical approaches, offering a comprehensive and evidence-based learning experience. The course is conducted under expert faculty guidance with extensive hands-on clinical exposure in a hospital setting.

The program includes structured theory classes, supervised clinical postings, practical training, and hands-on procedural exposure.

The curriculum is designed to develop clinical competence through:

  • Foundations of Shalyatantra and surgical ethics
  • Anatomy and physiology of the anorectal region
  • Ayurvedic and modern pharmacology relevant to proctology
  • Diagnostic procedures and clinical investigations
  • Management of hemorrhoids, fistula, fissure, abscess, anal stricture, and anorectal prolapse
  • Ayurvedic para-surgical procedures including Ksharasutra therapy and Kshara Karma
  • Operative and non-operative treatment approaches
  • Postoperative care and patient management

Assessment includes semester examinations, clinical case evaluation, practical assessments, and viva examinations.

  • BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery)
