National-Level Solo Odissi Dance Competition 2022

A national-level solo Odissi dance competition was held at Sri Sri University on the occasion of International Dance Day. The event organized by the Faculty of Arts, Communication and Indic studies (FACIS), Sri Sri University witnessed the participation of forty-seven candidates from different parts of the nation. The event was held in the memory of Late Sanjukta Panigrahi, who, along with her Guru, Kelucharan Mohapatra, catapulted the status of Odissi dance and put it high up on the global cultural map. The competition was conceptualized by Guru Ratikant Mohapatra, Dean, FACIS, and Director, Srjan. The program was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of Sri Sri University, Dr. B. R. Sharma along with Smt Madhavi Mudgal and Dr. Mhua Mukherjee, along with Guru Ratikant Mohapatra. The competition was judged by Smt Madhavi Mudgal, an Internationally renowned and senior Odissi dancer, and Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, a senior and globally acclaimed Gaudiya Nritya exponent. Amongst the forty-seven participants, there were three prize winners. The first prize winner, Santosh Ram, received a cash prize of rupees fifty thousand by Dr. B.R. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sri Sri University, sponsored by Akshaya Parija Foundation, and was conferred with the Sanjukta Panigrahi award of excellence. The second prize winner Sourav Mohanty received a cash prize of rupees thirty thousand from, Sri Gaurav Verma, Director of Operations, Sri University. The third prize winner, Ananya Parida, received a cash prize of twenty thousand rupees from Dr. D.P. Sahoo, Executive Registrar. Besides the prize winners, every participant was given a certificate of participation. The award ceremony was followed by a  group Odissi dance recital by the globally reputed “Srjan Ensemble”.
