  • M.Sc. Plant Pathology is a postgraduate course that focuses on the scientific study of diseases of economically important crop plants, their cause and their relationship with the environment.
  • This course provides the students with a comprehensive understanding of causal agent, etiology, epidemiology and integrated disease management approaches.
  • The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including types of diseases, their biotic causal agents, etiology, epidemiology and disease management strategies.
  • The course also includes the symptoms, causal agents, epidemiology, disease cycle and management strategies of economically important field and horticultural crops.
  • The course includes both classroom lectures and hands-on laboratory exercises, providing students with a balance of theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • Students will have the opportunity for conducting independent research projects, working closely with faculty mentors and collaborating with other students.
  • The course includes field trips and exposure visits to different farmer’s fields for collection of different symptoms of the diseases of economically important crop plants in a natural ecosystem.
  • The course faculty includes experienced plant pathologists with expertise in a variety of subfields, providing students with diverse perspectives and mentorship opportunities.
  • Graduates will have an in-depth knowledge of the different types of diseases affecting the economically important crop plants and the different causal agents responsible for causing the disease.
  • Graduates will have profound knowledge about the different types of symptoms associated with the diseases as well as the different procedures for preservation of plant diseased samples.
  • Graduates will be able to analyze the role of the environment in disease development.
  • Graduates will be able to strategize different integrated disease management strategies as well as managing diseases using statistical and computer simulation models.
  • Graduates will be equipped with knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in academia, industry, government and non- profit organizations related to plant pathology and allied fields.

ELIGIBILITY

A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Horticulture. 6.00/10 or equivalent OGPA/equivalent percentage of marks for general category candidates and 5.50/10 or equivalent OGPA/equivalent percentage of marks for SC/ST/PH category candidates at Bachelor’s degree level. Candidates with a 3-year Bachelor's Degree should undergo one-year remedial courses before registering for regular courses.
