5 Questions to ask yourself before you choose a career

Choosing a career path is a stressful and daunting experience. The decision you take today, will determine your future path. Having to make a right career choice after finishing school or graduation can be intimidating. In a world where one is provided with plethora of options for colleges and Universities, the process becomes even more confusing. A good way to start is by asking yourself these simple questions:

1. Where do I see myself in the coming few years?

One is posed with this question at least once in their lifetime. Leaving the practical aspect aside, what do you visualize What do you visualize yourself becoming in the next few years? It could be as optimistic as the CEO of a company to as modest as working in an Advertising agency. This will give you a head start in the decision making process.

2. What are my strengths and skill-sets?

Listing down your strengths and abilities will help you know what you are capable of and what you should not venture into. 

3. What is my priority? 

When you are not clear with what exactly you want, the best way is to prioritize your needs in life. It could be financial-security or skill development or your social responsibilities. Accordingly, you can decide if a 9-5 job, Social Entrepreneurship or a creative job fits well.

4. Do I want to make my passion as my career?

While you try to identify skill-sets and passion, it is important to analyze if you can follow your current interests and passion, and make it a full time career. If not, it is best to leave certain interests as part time hobbies.

5. Is the career chosen by me a sustainable option?

After having identified your skill sets, you need to judge if you have the perseverance to stick to a chosen career path. Certain career paths like Machine Learning and  AI are booming and have more scope and opportunities than others. Analyzing the future trends and their sustainability is an important aspect of this process.
