Environmental Science as an interdisciplinary subject

Environmental Science as an interdisciplinary subject

The environment that we are a part of is the most vital part of our daily lives. It affects everything we do, from climates to animal survival, to air quality and more. A world where global warming, air pollution, and plastic waste are major prevailing issues, environmental science is becoming an increasingly valued and relevant degree. It combines the elements of the key traditional fields of chemistry and biology.

When one chooses to study environmental science, He/ she has to be committed to it. It needs a good research base to get to the heart of the matter. Like the understanding of earth processes, evaluating alternative energy sources, the effect of climate change, and controlling pollution. The damage that we have all done to the world can only be taken care of by professionals who completely understand the extent of the problem that exists and are willing to work hard to solve it. The learning experiences of environmental science help students to explore and connect with their natural and man-made surroundings. As a study, it helps one develop their own insights into the functionality of numerous things and also understanding human processes in their environment.

Studying environmental science is academically rigorous and involves formulating a wide range of transferable skills that are very useful while looking for a job opportunity. Especially when the candidate is looking at working in a related field or planning to study further, then environmental science as a career option is an excellent choice. Most of the students pursuing a degree in environmental science go on to study postgraduate or do research. Also working as an environmental scientist will require a high degree of specialisation.

Fieldwork is a key element of studying environmental science. It would involve travelling to different countries to experience a range of habitats and climates or it could be focusing on a particular ecosystem and involve a significant amount of work in a single location. Laboratory work is equally a core body of studying environmental science.

However, the field of environmental science is growing at a faster pace than ever, more so because of the issues like climate change and pollution. Candidates who would want to pursue an environmental science degree have numerous options. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the degree, and the range of transferable skills one develops in the process allows a wide range of career opportunities outside the environmental science field. When it comes to job opportunities, one can choose from having a career as a microbiologist, environmental scientist or an environmental engineer. And common routes for environmental science graduates would include resource management, environmental advocacy, teaching, planning and development. These are some career prospects that would allow one to utilize the acquired skills they have developed, and in the process, they allow them to engage with immediate real-world issues.

However, due to the interdisciplinary nature of the degree, and the range of transferable skills one develops, there is a wide range of career opportunities outside the environmental science field. Common routes for environmental science graduates include resource management, environmental advocacy, teaching and planning and development. These careers allow you to utilize the skills you have developed, and definitely allows you to engage with an immediate real-world problem.

So, if you are in the process of selecting a degree and have a knack to learn more about the environment and its challenges. And are keen on studying a scientific subject then an environmental science degree might be the best choice for you. But a word of caution would be that you should be committed to it. Because it will take a lot of hard work and research to know more about the green sector.

Psychology can be the best career choice

Psychology can be the best career choice

Psychology is the study that covers the human mind and its behaviour. It has numerous applications on all aspects of life, namely- work, family, relationships, sports, industries and in organisational spaces. Psychology is a diverse field and covers interesting facts about life.

The science of human behaviour emerged in Germany and during the World War, psychology drifted to the United States and emerged in India approximately 70 years ago. Since then, our Indian Psychologists have worked quite hard to recognize psychology as a separate discipline.

In order to pursue a career as a Psychologist, one should have a genuine desire to understand and help another human being. It takes a psychologist to study the processes, motives, reactions, feelings and the overall nature of the human mind. Psychologists apply their knowledge and techniques to a broad range of endeavours, human services, management, education, law and sports. They bring about changes in the thought process of people by counselling them and thereby improving their quality of life.

The field of psychology has been gradually getting more and more precise, due to the advances in medical sciences, brain studies, and scientific use of computers for statistical analysis. The more precise our information is about the functionality of the brain, its comparative analysis of symptoms and broader studies of different populations, the more advanced psychology can become.

Psychology as a discipline is based on scientific theories and major research work. The students interested in the field of research need to have an in-depth knowledge of the subject.

Psychology can prove to be a great career option as human psychology is employed everywhere around us since it studies the human mind and behaviour. One can obtain a graduate degree to build a base in psychology from a well-recognised institute and then go on to specialise on any of its branches. While studying all the subjects of psychology during the bachelor’s degree, will further help the student to identify his area of interest, from the branches like General Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Organizational Behaviour, etc. Psychology in India is gaining importance and is high on demand. One can go for various job opportunities once they complete their master’s program.

The area of jobs can include:

  • Counsellor required in NGOs, Old age homes and Rehabilitation Centres
  • Education Sector, as School Counsellors, trainers, career counsellors
  • Clinical psychologists, they are in great demand. Although one must complete M.Phil before starting an independent practice
  • Organisational psychologists, work for MNCs, organisations, Human Resource and development
  • Research, both qualitative and quantitative research are promising areas

Psychology is a highly rewarding and lucrative field of study. A psychologist can earn well depending on various factors like his qualifications, area of specialization and experience in the profession

FASHION 2020 by Komal Agarwal

FASHION 2020 by Komal Agarwal

Fashion is the most common word we hear in our day to day life. We don’t consider it to be very important but actually, it is we work for hours and think for several times before stepping out of our house for even a simple daily work related to the household. Fashion is used by everyone. It is related to culture. Likewise, we have warm clothes in Swedish fashion and we have thin clothes in African fashion.

In society nowadays, fashion is important because it allows people to express their personality. Throughout the ages, fashion has been an important part of society and culture. As the human world developed so did the practice of clothing and what people developed out of different materials to wear. It is one of the purest expressions of art because it is art lived daily. The main purpose of fashion is to negate our persistent fear of death. Decorating ourselves in particular things helps to craft an identity, which creates the illusion of permanency. If we buy things and we define the way we look, it makes our existence feel more real and everlasting.

Fashion has always indicated the current time in history whether it is a shift in social norms, politics, culture, or technology. Over the last century or so, fashion has shifted from prim-and-proper dresses to dad sneakers and suit sets. Fashion is repeating itself in a new version as we saw in the past the tiny sunglasses the 90s bell-bottoms pants leather jackets platform heels. Those that are evergreen; they are still trendsetters.

As we all know fashion repeats itself. It’s not going ahead although you expose things differently. It’s not bad from taking inspiration from the past as long as you don’t do a photocopy of it but reinvent it. As the past is heavy on all of us and there are so many books about it that it’s impossible not to be influenced at all. As we talk about the past and its influence how can we forget the fashion shows and magazines; how important part they play to influence us.

Surely, we all did this in our childhood. We used to take the cut out from the magazines and collect them. We used to walk like models by watching fashion shows and it was a dream for every girl to dress like a model in their school fancy dress competition they use to practice to walk like a model. Everywhere it was a trend to dress like the models carry that attitude with confidence and grace. Then slowly we shifted towards the red carpet looks for which there was fashion police known as fashion critics who used to judge them according to their outfit.

The award shows and the red carpet were the new inns for a while it used to be a trendsetter for the whole year people used to follow their favourite celebrities. And then soon came the airport look dairies. The airport look was so effortless and casual that soon it became a statement. As time changes we can see a shift from the magazine to IG TV on Instagram, where there are fashion influencers who shoot a one minute video and tell three to five ways of getting dressed, reinventing, recreating and getting dolled up with all those layers.

A fashion influencer is a personality that has a large number of followers on social media, creates mainly fashion content and has the power to influence the opinion and purchase behaviour of others with their recommendations. As we can see in this time of Pandemic the situation has completely changed, lifestyle has changed, people have to accept the new way of living. For instance, the use of masks. The mask has become a new trend and it is very necessary at this time you can’t think of stepping out of your house without a mask. With this comes the variety of masks now play an important role in our outfit. We can see that at weddings people wear mask matching with their attire.

As we can see the scenario has completely changed the time has changed but one thing that had not changed is the fashion it’s the part of our life no matter what the situation is we want to be according to the trend we want to live and accept the new world but by altering it through innovations and creativity it becomes a part of life and history.

Introverts and Extroverts: An Assessment of Personality Traits By Gayatri Sahu

Introverts and Extroverts: An Assessment of Personality Traits By Gayatri Sahu
Personality is an individual’s characteristics, a pattern of feeling, thinking and behaving. These unique characteristics and behaviour patterns are what distinguishes one human from another. Two main theories help identify a person’s personality type, i.e., introvert or extrovert. The idea of two polar personalities was first described by Swiss-German psychologist Carl Jung, who coined the terms introversion and extroversion.

Jung’s theory was further elaborated by Hans Eysenck, a German psychologist who defined introverts and extroverts by their baseline arousal. Eysenck believed that the difference between extroverts and introverts was at levels of arousal. Further, it is determined by stimulation and responsiveness these people have to their surroundings. He proposed that the rate of arousal for extroverts is tremendously lower, so they must seek more stimulating activities to be at the normal state of arousal. This is why they seek adventure and the company of others. On the other hand, introverts have a higher rate of arousal, so it doesn’t take as much to raise it to the normal state. This is why the adventure extroverts pursue may be overwhelming for them, so they would rather be in their own company.

Psychological theories represent the abstract concept of human behaviour in more understandable terms. Based on dynamic personality characteristics, some theories strive to
predict the suitability of the individual of future circumstances. Matching people’s

personality and interaction styles to congruent careers and educational techniques save time, money and ennui for everyone in the equation.

An introvert is someone comfortable and enjoys being by themselves and they are in their heads more than they are out in the real world, they are deep thinkers, they are more comfortable being alone and do not enjoy the serenity. Their energy tends to drain when they are interacting and socializing with other people. On the other hand, an extrovert is the opposite of the introvert. The extrovert is a social butterfly, loves to go out, interacts and socialize with people. They excited by people, they draw their energy from other people from the external environment. They don’t like to be by themselves and don’t like to be in their head all the time. These are the two distinctive definitions.

An introvert on the fundamental level thinks and believes that his real world is in his mind, he lives in a world of ideas. An introvert is so absorbed in his/her thoughts and analysis or processing of the sensory perception from around the world. They are also very powerful observers. This aids them in understanding the nature of human interactions and enables them to be more conscious of what they are doing. People who are high in extroversion tend to seek out social stimulation and opportunities to engage with others. They tend to be happier, more

successful and more likely to be leaders than introverts. When we ask a question to an extrovert, he response immediately but an introvert takes time to think and then respond.

The terms “introvert” and “extrovert” describes how one can focus their attention or energy, whether their source is intrinsic or extrinsic. This is only one of four psychological modes (thinking, sensation, feeling and intuition) postulated by Carl Jung, but the best known by the general public. Introverts and extroverts are not simply opposites in a single continuum. While
most of us have made peace with our natural tendencies, probably wished at times to be less like

ourselves and more like someone our opposite or at least coveted some of our traits.

Both categories have pros and cons. Extroverts with a touch of introversion or vice versa, the ambiverts tend to find more doors open to them than those at either extreme. Introverts can learn to be chattier and more spontaneous. Extroverts can learn to watch and talk less. And whatever they’ve acquired through their genes or upbringing is not permanent. To some extent, it is malleable and can be nudged.
