The loud cheering of the crowd, the tension at the game’s climax, the joy of winning a trophy: Does this excite you? Now imagine, you being the master controller of these activities.

Sports Management is the business of dealing with sports personnel and activities. It is a niche field meant for people interested in both Sports and Business. Although this field is well developed in western countries, its importance in India was realized only after the launch of Indian Premier League in the country in 2008. Since then the sports industry in India has developed at a very fast rate with creation of leagues in sports like Football, Badminton, Kabbadi, Hockey, Wrestling and many more. The country’s participation in Rio Olympics 2016 with the largest ever delegation and its performance there proved that our country is marching towards becoming a Sporting nation. With the great initiatives and increased support from the Government and the private sector, the focus has now shifted towards solving infrastructure and training issues. In order to manage this growing sports culture in the country, there is a large demand for highly trained and educated sports professionals who can meet the fast changing needs of the sport industry. The sporting business which was considered as a leisure or recreational activity has now become a multi-billion dollar industry. Many sports event management companies, sports clubs and organizations need highly competent sports administrators, supervisors, managers and other support staff to manage their day to day business. As per FICCI Report, projected Human Resource requirement in Sports Management by 2022 will be 7,45,984.

After taking a professional course in this field, you can work as a team manager, athletic director, sports agent and recruiter, marketing and PR professionals, etc.

If you love sports but know that your chances of finding a place on an elite sports team are limited, don’t despair. You don’t have to give up anymore, on your dream of being a part of the environment that you love! If you can’t be an elite level player, you could still experience that exhilarating environment as a sports management professional, working with top teams and players.

Taking up a behind-the-scenes role might feel a little different at first, but you’ll soon find that working in sports management offers many of the same mental and emotional challenges as actually playing on a sports team! In this career, you can continue to live out your passion for sport, for just as long as you want. Instead of a boring 9 to 5 desk job, you would be a part of one of the most vibrant and fun-filled industries in the world.
